We’ve lined a little bit of the lineup from Portland-based Straightaway Cocktails’ Accompani model, and at this time we take a dive into one of the crucial extensively used spirits, vermouth. This can be a dry vermouth, made with tarragon, thyme, citron, candy woodruff, and rose, amongst different botanicals.
This can be a versatile and recent vermouth, pale yellow in colour, with a nostril that immediately evokes the rose petals within the recipe. Orange and lemon peel duel for second fiddle, with a light herbaceous high quality following behind. The palate is extra candy than bitter or drying, with a traditional herb-heavy building that pairs properly with the overtones of melon and more and more pushy lemon notes. With gin, it makes for a stable martini, balancing out the juniper and peppery notes of a high-quality gin with only a trace of sweetness, a slight salinity, and a pop of fruit. I prefer it lots and might be placing it into my vermouth rotation (for so long as it lasts within the fridge).
