This pinot grigio is a shock, hailing from South Africa’s Western Cape area. (Protea is South Africa’s nationwide flower.) Contemporary and vivid, this wine shortly fires out notes of candy pineapple and florals, touched with coconut, cantaloupe, and only a contact of honeysuckle. Extra fruit-driven than you’d anticipate, it drinks nearer to a New Zealand sauvignon blanc than something I’ve had out of South Africa in current reminiscence. The end takes a barely creamy flip, with delicate notes of caramel and vanilla, and lemon curd lingering. Love the corkscrew-free closure that may be merely yanked out like a Champagne cork.
